Is Eating Only Protein Dangerous?

Last Updated By Victor Townsend

is eating only protein dangerous

One of the common questions I’ve been getting from readers is, Is eating only protein dangerous? So I wanted to write this post and explain that question because it’s important.

Yes, it is. When your only eating protein and no carbs and no fat, your body will go into rapid starvation mode.

Which is not good.

Rabbit starvation mode is what happened to people in Antarctica. The people were eating only rabbits because that was the only food source they could eat. There’s just one problem with that. Rabbits have very little fat.

They were starving to death even though they were eating a lot of rabbits because they weren’t getting any fat.

Listen to Joe Rogan explain rabbit starvation, it starts at 3:50.

So if you’re not getting any fat or carbs, you’re body will starve itself.

Does this mean you should panic if you haven’t eaten any fat in a day? No. You can eat lean meat for a day or two, but the point is you want to be eating a lot of fat.

You Need Fat

Keep in mind, when you’re in ketosis, you want the ratio of fat to be about 70% of your caloric intake. That’s a lot of fat.

You need either carbs or fat, but you don’t want carbs. Your body much prefers to use fat as fuel. Right now, everyone is using glucose at fuel.

Joe explains that many different explorers in the past have found this. Since they were all hunters, hunted and ate the animals. If they were only eating very lean meats from rabbits for example, they started to feel bad in general.

Many of them would add fat sources to their diets such as animal blubber, also known as fat, like whale blubber for example.

Conclusion

You’re supposed to be eating a lot of fat on the Carnivore or keto diet. Your metrics should be 70% fat. 20% protein.

The fat is what makes you healthy. Your brain prefers to use fat as fuel, your body, everything.

The fat is what restores your vibrancy.

All the nutrients and what you need is in the fat.

I hope this article made sense on whether or not eating only meat is dangerous.

Remember, you need to eat either carbs or fat. Fat is preferred by our bodies. On this diet, eating fatty cuts of meat is crucial.
